Miriam Trip, Stage 5: Travel Guide Spiš - Gelnica

Another hard, but scenic route day. It is getting wilder, less touristy and less visited. From Spišská Nová Ves, cycle up through Bindt (former mining location) to Závadka village. The route is scenic, with great views. Závadka is your first place where you can stop to buy some refreshments at local grocery store. 

Another scenic section takes you through the highest point of your journey today (957 metres above sea level) to Poráč village. There is also a local pub in the village, but consider continuing down to Poráč Park with a restaurant.

Poráč valley is moist and picturesque. You will need to cross a stream at one point, but the water level should be rather low. Expedition! After reaching Slovinky village, the last challenge of today starts. 400 metres elevation gain at 4 kilometres at gravel surface makes it a challenging experience, but it is doable. 

After reaching the pass, enjoy downhill along Thurzo spa to a sleepy medieval mining town Gelnica, where you stay for tonight.
