Mountain Route, Stage 5: Travel Guide Inovec - Omastiná
From Inovec, cycle down the asphalt road for a while before entering to a forest road to the right. Its surface quality depends on the loggers, unfortunately, so be prepared for a bit of mess. However, after a few kilometres it should get better and you can enjoy downhill and gravel road all the way down to Zlatníky, already 30 kilometres from the start.
After a few villages you arrive to town Bánovce nad Bebravou, one of those Slovak towns with a square and with prefabs, but may be worth to stop in a café, restaurant or supermarket.
From here, it 7 kilometres further to Uhrovec, a village known as a birth place of two important personalities of Slovak history. Both the 19th century hero of Slovak language codification Ľudovít Štúr and the symbol of the communist-era Prague spring 1968 and “socialism with human face” in Czechoslovakia, Alexander Dubček, were born in the same house – now a museum.
Uhrovec is also a name of a charming medieval castle ruin with a cave nearby, accessible from Uhrovské Podhradie. It is only 1,5 km, but 260 metres elevation gain and 45 minutes steep hike up to reach it.
Your accommodation is located in a small sleepy village Omastiná, with some interesting abandoned houses to see.
